Reading expands horizons

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. Writers or authors, journalists, musicians, actors and publishers should encourage people to read. Reading expands horizons and helps people to escape pitiful situations.  Quoting Mortimer Adler, reading is a basic tool in the living of a good life.

To promote a reading culture in Zimbabwe, politicians, authors and journalists should participate in public reading and panel discussions. Reading is important if we wish to change our untold vistas.

It helps to thwart illiteracy; it improves vocabulary, word power and critical thinking. I think reading triggers a passion for writing. The more people read the better they become writers and this is helpful to our local publishing industry.

Reading should be encouraged and promoted since it helps people to be knowledgeable. The more they (people) read, the diverse books they read and each time they read, they are adding valuable pieces of knowledge to their mental databases. Knowledge helps a person to make correct decisions in different situations in life.
