Zifa president, Dr Curthbert Elkana Dube yesterday commissioned the
Electoral Committee which will be responsible for supervising very delicate
football election processes for the next four years.
This follows a Fifa directive which states that all elections should be
run by an electoral committee established in terms of the Fifa electoral code.
He said: “The new Zifa electoral committee, established in terms of the
Zifa electoral code’s article 3.1, is an independent body charged with
overseeing the electoral processes in respect of the nominations, vetting of
candidates, production of final list of candidates, production of electoral
material, namely nomination forms, ballot papers and the holding of the
elections.”
“A composite report shall be submitted to the Zifa board by the
electoral committee at the end of March 2014.”
The 11-member committee comprises Elizabeth Banda, a qualified sports
administrator; Musekiwa Mbanje, a third year Law student at the University of
Zimbabwe; Tichawana Nyahuma, a legal practitioner; Tendai Madzorera, former
Zifa Vice President; Charles Sibanda, member of the Zifa High Performance
Technical Committee; Sello Nare, Labour Court of Zimbabwe Judge; and Tinofara Kudakwashe
Hove, Lawyer.
Retired Judge Kennedy Sibanda, a consultant on legal matters; Cornelius
Bganya and Passious Masunda, Zifa Honorary members; and Ralph Maganga, Zifa
legal advisor, are also in the same committee.
Dr Dube also said the Committee’s secretary Jonathan Mashingaidze,
Messrs Cornelius Bganya, Passious Masunda and Ralph Maganga will be ex officio
members by virtue of their current placement in football.
Mashingaidze is the Chief Executive Officer; Messrs Cornelius Bganya and
Passious Masunda are Zifa Honorary members and Ralph Maganga in the Zifa
Lawyer.
Dr Dube emphasised that the strategic committee is an independent body
whose brief is to supervise a very delicate electoral process.
Madzorera accepted the challenge and thanked the Zifa boss and the board
for the appointments, highlighting that it was an honour to the members.
He also promised the Zifa president that the committee is going to work
hard for the development of soccer in the country.
