Dynamos have claimed their third straight Zimbabwe Premiership title after piping Highlanders and Harare City on goal difference to the 2013 championship on Sunday.

The Harare giants defied odds when they beat Black Mambas at Rufaro Stadium to be crowned champions.

Striker Simba Sithole scored a priceless brace in the first half to ensure that the trophy remains at the Glamour Boys and, with that feat; they will have it for keeps.

This also means that Dynamos will now afford to celebrate their 50th anniversary in style as they have some silverware to show for it despite losing out in the BancABC Sup8r Cup and the richest tournament in the country, the Mbada Diamonds Cup.

Like Manchester United, Dynamos now have 20 league titles.

Importantly, Coach Callisto Pasuwa effectively sealed his place in the Dynamos Hall of Fame after wrapping his third straight title.

Pasuwa paid tribute to his players for their determination and attributed their dramatic win to the work of God’.

He said: “This is all God’s work … I had a lot of challenges in this championship race and from day one we were the team to beat. Every team worked hard to beat us.

“There was a time when even some within our club did not trust what I said when I complained about the treatment we got from match officials, especially in our away games and thought I was just offering excuses.

“But I want to thank God for all this because he had a special plan for us and this is not about my wisdom.”

Pasuwa also thanked all those who prayed for the team and everyone who supported it.

He added: “Some people questioned the character of this team and during the season we suffered a number of setbacks but I want to salute my players for remaining united and dedicated.

“There was a time when divisions had emerged in the first 10 games given that we failed to win our first five games but I sat them down and told them to unite and express their talents and once we regained our focus, the results started to come and here we are - champions again.’’

The Dynamos gaffer also paid tribute to the management for sticking by him when the pressured intensified with some section of the fans calling for the coach’s head.

“After our slow start to the season, there was pressure on the executive to fire the technical crew but the executive had trust in us and I am happy we have managed to repay them by winning the championship,” he said.

Ugandan import, Boban Bogere Zirintusa was also excited about his team’s exploits and paid tribute to God, Pasuwa and his teammates.

“It is good to be a champion. I thank God, my coach and the whole technical team for a job well done,” he said.

Sharing the same sentiments, goalkeeper George Chigova said he was excited by winning another medal with the Harare giants.

“I am not surprised by winning the championship because we had thoroughly prepared for it. We even brought our Champaign bottles here. Although it looked like we may not win the title today, we should understand that in football anything can happen.

“We knew that there was a chance Harare City could falter. So we just told ourselves that we had to win our game.”

Chigova goes on to say, “I am happy we are the first Dynamos group to win the title three times in a row.”

Club secretary-general Webster Chikengezha said his management was also basking in the glory of becoming the first Dembare leadership to lead the Harare giants to three successive championship titles.

“We had a lot of pressure especially after the first seven games of the season. I am happy that today we have done it and we are the first executive to win the league three times in a row but more importantly would like to dedicate this title to our coach. He was under a lot of pressure but he has proven to be one of the best coaches we have in the country,” he said.

Chikengezha added, “We now want to ensure that we retain at least 90 percent of the players we have so that there is continuity and we won’t have to build another team for the 2014 season.’’

After rapping this title, the most successful team in this country in now preparing for the jungles of Africa.

Chikengezha said Dynamos is going to retain all players.
