Choreographer, performer and dancer Privilege Mupfurutsa
fondly known in dancing circles as “Sekuru Gudo” is finalising work on his
debut album.
The Brian Poison’s produced six track album is titled
Chaputika (Explosion) and it touches on social issues that affect people in
their day to day lives.
Some of the tracks on the album include ‘Isa Mafuta’,
‘Selina’ – a love song and ‘Mai Mwana’ (Club King).
Mupfurutsa said: “Chaputika is my debut album. I prepared this
alum to educate and inform people on various social issues.”
On the title of the album, Mupfurutsa notes: “The whole idea
is to introduce our group Explosion to all music loving Zimbabweans. The
explosion team was very involved in the production of th album.”
He adds, “The plan of doing the album comes from the
realisation that the group should provide a total entertainment package.
The group Explosion comprises ten members.
Peter Tinashe Kaviya, the group’s manager says the album is
going to be launched on the weekend of 30 to 31st of August at Rat
and Mouse outlet in Marondera. He further said the group will be performing
with a live band for the first time.
“The group is going to launch its debut album in Marondera
and the occasion is going to be graced by Itai Madzikure (Madiz), Diamond
Musica, Roki and rhumba artist Papa T-Sheme,” explains Kaviya, adding, “We are
taking thing a step further by not just recording but also doing stage
performance using a live band.
“We are also going to launch three videos from the album,”
Kaviya said.
Sekuru Gudo worked with Diamond Musica. The rhumba outfit is
helping Mupfurutsa on vocals, instruments and stage performance.
Meanwhile, Explosion is in the process of acquiring its new
equipment. It had already acquired drums, guitars and speakers.
Kaviya said, “The group wants to make sure that art is
viable – it is trying to diversify. The group wants to have a share and claim
its stake in the creative industry. This is why we introduced flavours of
traditional dances, rhumba dances, house and kwaito dances into our act.”
He adds, “We want to maintain our status as the innovators
of dancing and cement our place as one of the best professional groups in the
country.”
Harare revelers should not be worried since the group is set
to launch its album in the capital city after the Marondera show. The venue is
yet to be confirmed.
